I have been experimenting with Galantamine recently and wanted to share my experiences. Galantamine is an alkaloid that has been isolated from certain plants such as red spider lily and the daffodil. It can also be produced synthetically. It is being used as a treatment for cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s disease as well as other memory impairments. Galantamine is used due to its acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-inhibiting properties which leads us to the use in lucid dreaming. Acetylcholinesterase is an enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Galantamine makes more acetylcholine available in the brain which can lead to more frequent and potentially more lucid dreams. In my personal experience, I have found Galantamine to be a useful adjunct to other dream induction techniques. The most effective technique I found for me was to go to sleep for 4 hours. I would then wake up and take 8mg of Galantamine and practice dream reliving where I would basically meditate for a period of time on a previous dream or nightmare. I would usefully focus on an element of the dream that I could control through my own actions. I would spend between 15-20 mins in this practice and then return to sleep. This technique frequently led to vivid dreams, improved control in the dream, and more dream recall. I recall one dream in particular where I was working for a company that offered to pay for many different types of outside adventure type activities. I chose sky-diving. The dream was very detailed in all of the preparation for the jump. The plane ride was vivid and then I had an amazing experience as I jumped out of the plane. Sadly, the dream ended shortly after jumping. I will continue to experiment with Galantamine and other supplements to see if I can further enhance my dreaming skills.
